gabriela shawl
Everyday after lunch we go for a walk. I am lucky to live in a
neighbourhood that, wherever you go, you end up looking at the
sea, but I specially love the gardens that are a few metres from
our home.
I like them because I am in love with sparrows and I love
strolling and seeing the chicks grow, the moment when families
come together. I like to hear them chirp and even see their
boldness despite my presence.
This love for these little birds is something that both my brother
and I have in our hearts as something that reminds us of our
father. In fact, my brother always tells me that when he goes for
a walk with his daughter and a cheeky sparrow stares at them,
he tells her ‘look, it’s grandad Goyo’.
When I was designing this shawl I knew that I wanted to take the
pictures in these gardens, specifically next to a dream house
that is in the middle of the gardens. I love its porch and I can
easily imagine myself sitting and knitting under it.
The name of this shawl is not dedicated to anyone or anything,
but when I was knitting it, all I could think was, ‘I’ll call it
Gabriela’ because it is a big name for an important woman and
this is one of my favourite shawls that I have designed. I love it
blocked, I love it unblocked… It is THE shawl!
