To Veronik Avery, “folk” means “steeped in tradition.” Veronik used the time-honored patterns of Scottish ganseys in an updated, but no less traditional, hat-and-mitten set. Drawn to the “comfort food” knit-and-purl gansey patterns, she made a textural design that is easy to knit. For the hat, she limited herself to one of the patterns that just happens to resemble a thermal knit. To add a personalized heirloom quality to the mitts, Veronik designed a spot of knit-in initials.

Matching mittens are listed here.

Finished Sizes -
16 (17.25, 18.5)” (40.5 44, 47 cm)
head circumference; will easily stretch to fit 18 (19.5, 21)” (45.5 49.5, 53.5 cm).

Note - If making a hat and mitten set, 3 balls is sufficient to make the smaller-size mittens along with either of the 2 smallest hat sizes, but not enough to make both projects in the largest size.

Hat shown measures 18.5” (47cm) unstretched.
