In linguistics, a ‘garden path’ sentence is one that leads you astray as it is being read. An example is “The old man the boat.” At first glance it may not make any sense, because one initially reads the subject of the sentence as “the old man,” when in fact the subject is “the old” (who man the boat). The sentence is perfectly grammatical, though at first it strikes the reader as odd.

A knitted moebius is similarly unexpected – it is cast on in its center, and knit around and around, as the fabric grows outwards in between the loops of the circular needle. It produces a wholly startling fabric with only one side – half of it stockinette, and half reverse stockinette. Luckily, both sides of this curving lace and cable stitch pattern are attractive. A knit-and-purl ruffle completes the edge. It’s perfect to hug you around the shoulders on a chilly summer evening.

The cables & lace pattern is both written out and charted, and the twists are all worked without a cable needle. Full instructions for the moebius cast-on are included.

Sizing Note: To pick the size that best suits you, measure comfortably below your shoulders, at the widest point of your upper arm. Sizing is flexible, and if in doubt, go for a larger rather than smaller size.
