You can’t beat a classic cardigan, and this design is exactly that. A flattering and wearable shape, in timeless stocking stitch, this is a great first garment if you’ve never tackled a cardigan before. It’s also a really great catch-all project, with plenty of simple knitting to keep you occupied in front of the TV or on your commute to work.

This cardigan is worked flat from the bottom up. It is worked in one piece to the armholes, where it splits for fronts and back. These parts are then joined at the shoulders using a three-needle cast off. The sleeves are worked in the round from cuff to underarm, then the sleeve cap is worked flat. The sleeve is then set in to the body of the cardigan and a button band is worked all around the fronts and collar.

As the yarn is not superwash, you can splice in new balls of yarn as you go to avoid weaving in too many ends.
