The hats are worked in the round from the bottom up. They resemble my “Garter and Gulls Scarf”, exploring variations of the “gull’ or ‘gull cable’ stitch, a set of cross-overs that can be worked either by dropping sts intentionally, or by using a traditional cable needle. In my knitting, I used the drop-stitch method (when the stitch is dropped from the previous round to the front of your work it will hang there safely).

YARN: Purl Soho’s Cashmere Merino Bloom, light worsted/DK-weight yarn, 75% extra fine merino wool and 25% cashmere, 100 grams (3.5 ounces), 218 yards (199 meters), Color Warm Honey, 1 skein.

NEEDLES: One – 16” US 6 (4 mm) circular. One 16” US 7 (4.5 mm) circular. One – set US 7(4.5 mm) DPNs or longer cords to use for Magic Loop Method. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

NOTIONS: Stitch markers, including one unique; tapestry needle.

GAUGE: 24 sts = 4” (10cm) on US 7 (4.5mm) needles in 2 x 2 rib pattern.
