A classic cabled hat with a ribbed brim and a single column of garter stitch cables. Rapid decreases create a gathered crown. Directions given for beanie (shown) or slouchy style.

Pattern is written for one circumference to fit the average adult female with two depths – beanie or slouch. When applicable, directions for the slouch version are written in parentheses as follows: beanie (slouch). Measurements are taken post-blocking.

MATERIALS
YARN: You will need approximately 140 (160) yards of worsted or aran weight yarn. Yarn shown in photos is Malabrigo Twist in Pearl Ten (grey) and Manzanilla Olive (green). The ombré hat is Freia Worsted in Maple and was knit to a slightly smaller gauge than called for in the pattern.

NEEDLES: Double pointed needles and 16” circular needles in US sizes 8 (5mm) and 6 (4mm) or size required to obtain gauge and two sizes smaller.

NOTIONS: 5 st mkrs, a darning needle for weaving in ends.
