Garter Lace Cowl
This pattern has a 20% launch discount applied automatically at checkout until midnight (GMT/UK time) on 9th March. Alternatively you could visit my blog post during the same time period to collect the launch coupon code for 50% off.
Inspired by the desire for warm but pretty winter accessories combining the comforting feel of a luxurious yarn with a glamorous vintage appearance, these are lightweight pieces that are eye catching and easy to use with a variety of indoor and outdoor outfits.
The easy, meditative repeats of the simple 8 row garter stitch pattern and the use of short rows for shaping make this a perfect first lace project for those who love the look of shapely lace knit accessories but haven’t been confident to venture in that direction yet. More confident knitters will find this a great TV/craft group make that doesn’t demand of all your attention.
Newer knitters may wish to use a lifeline if not confident to pick up a dropped yarn over. Seaming garter stitch is particularly easy and forgiving.
Sizes: 40 – 48cm / 16 - 19” worn with 5-15 cm positive ease around neck, according to wearer’s style and comfort preference.
Tension: 26 sts x 59 rows = 10cm /4” measured over plain garter stitch section unstretched. Note that the pair of short rows in each repeat does not extend to this section so you would only count 44 rows of the 59 there.
Working method: worked sideways. All pieces are worked flat and turned after each row. Wrist Warmers and Cowl are seamed closed.

a. Cowl neck circumference: 40 (43, 45.5, 48) cm / 16 (17, 18, 19)”
