This past summer, I travelled to San Francisco and was glad for the lace stole I brought with me. Since San Francisco - especially the Golden Gate Bridge - can be breezy, chilly, and foggy in the summer months, my stole ended up wrapped around my neck and shoulders most of the time! I wanted to make something that would serve the same purpose in the cold months. This pattern is the result: a beautiful lacy scarf that is also warm and very “wrappable!”

The Gateway scarf blends cozy warmth with elegant lace, to carry you through the cool transitional seasons on into the chilly middle of winter! Choose between a small and large size, and practice your basic lace skills while watching this beautiful repeating pattern unfold.

It is recommended that knitters have some experience working from a charted stitch pattern. (Shown in Large Size. Feel free to modify as desired for your best length!)

MATERIALS
• Berroco Ultra Alpaca50% alpaca/50% wool, 215 yds/198 m per 3.5 oz/100g skein, 3(4) skeins
• 5.0mm needles for working flat, OR needle size required for pattern gauge
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle If substituting yarns, use a worsted-weight wool or wool/alpaca blend which works well at pattern gauge.

SIZING S(L)
• Finished scarf measures 14 ins x 80 ins (21 ins x 85 ins). Length may be easily modified according to personal desire

GAUGE
• 20 sts/36 rows over 6 ins over
pattern stitch (Main Chart) on 5.0mm needles, after blocking (this translates to 1 vertical repeat and 2 horizontal repeats of the pattern)
• 16 sts/24 rows over stockinette stitch on 5.0mm needles

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Working knit, purl, and ktbl sts
• Working basic lace sts: Yarnovers and single decreases
• Reading and working from a chart
