ABOUT THE PATTERN

Gaufre is a cosy pair of socks featuring an addictive two-colour waffle stitch and contrasting toe, heel and cuff. The stitch makes them super squishy, so they are ideal to wear as boot socks.

They are constructed toe-up and feature a German short-row heel and a twisted rib cuff. The waffle stitch is created using slipped stitches so the row count differs from that of the stockinette. Because of this, the foot of the sock has an unusual ‘banana’ shape that is very comfortable to wear.

I designed them with madelinetosh’s Tosh Sock, a fingering weight yarn in 100% merino wool. The combination of the solid yarn with the variegated works extremely well to show off the variegated in a way that is still very simple and wearable.

If you wish to use an alternative yarn, any sock yarn that matches the gauge specified will work well.

For my sample, I used the shades: Cove (Colour A) and Paper (Colour B).
