Gay Beer Can Cozies
Happy #StoneWall50 ! 2019 is a very special year in U.S. LGBTQ history as it marks the 50th anniversary of the June 1969 Stonewall Riots. LGBTQ people fought back during a routine police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, which became a key turning point in the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
To commemorate this historic year, I created 2 patterns. The first pattern (“HRC Motif Beer Can Cozy”) uses standard double knitting. The “equal sign” motif, which symbolizes equality, is the logo of the Human Rights Campaign. More information of the organization can be found at https://www.hrc.org/
The second pattern (“GAYGAYGAY Beer Can Cozy”) uses two-pattern double knitting. The design was inspired by a poster used for the first NYC Pride March, in 1970. More information on the first Pride March can be found at NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project at http://www.nyclgbtsites.org/site/starting-point-of-nycs-f...
If you enjoy knitting these cozies, please consider donating to both organizations.

The HRC Motif Beer Can Cozy is knitted in standard double knitting. The GAYGAYGAY Beer Can Cozy is knitted in two-pattern double knitting. Two-pattern double knitting is a technique to make asymmetric designs truly reversible, making alphabets legible on the reverse side.
