Gelato
I love a top down Raglan and I love anything you can throw on and know, without a doubt, you will look cute. This cardi ticks all the boxes. Gelato is the perfect layering piece with long, slimming lines and fun minimalist lace diamonds that draws the eye.
Gelato can be knit in a single colour, made into a gradient or colour blocked very easily. It is a great way to use up a few skeins of fingering weight yarn sitting around the house waiting to turn into a garment you’ll wear over and over again.
This very wearable piece will look great in a monochromatic pallet, or in as many colours as you can fit into it, it’s a blank canvas ready for any flavour from vanilla bean to tooty-fruity!
Gelato can be worn with varying degrees of ease, though I made mine with 4”/10cm of positive ease. I have a 35” bust and made the size 6. You can make yours to whatever level of ease makes you feel great! This sweater is extremely simple and really lets the yarn speak for itself. The simple, intuitive construction makes for a very approachable garment and a great first sweater, or first piece to try your hand at very simple lace eyelets.

(I chose to hold a strand of mohair doubled with my CC for the neckline, I like the play of different textures, it’s really up to you if you’d like to do the same. )
I also alternated colours for several rounds at each colour change to blend the transitions more subtilely.
Needles and notions
3,5mm needles for the body of the sweater, as it is worked flat you can really use any length of cable. I used a 32” cable.
The sleeves are knit on the same size in the round and you can either use Double Pointed needles or Magic loop as you prefer.
2,75mm for band and cuffs.
5 stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Gauge
Using 3,5 mm in Stockinette Stitch: 26 sts x 36 rows 4”/10cm.
