Ginsberg’s dramatic volume creates a striking silhouette and a cocoon of snuggly warmth. The knitting begins with a barn roof-shaped back piece, with the fronts worked on stitches picked up from the upper gambrel slopes. These projecting wings fold over the shoulders and are seamed to the back piece at the sides. Hem ribbing is worked along the fronts and back in one piece. Cables and blocks of textured stitches create a large-scale plaid effect on the fabric. Cuffs are knit in the round on stitches picked up after seaming to form a gentle puff above the elbow.
Construction
- The back is worked first from the bottom up. Both fronts are picked up along the sloped edges of the upper back and worked simultaneously from the top down. The back and fronts are joined to work the lower ribbing in a single piece.
