Girasol
Girasol is the Spanish word for sunflower and literally it translates to ‘turn to the sun’. And that’s what the flowers seem to be doing all day long: turning their bright yellow heads towards the sun. For me they are a happy sight, even though they symbolize that summer is almost over when they are in full bloom – so why not knit their happy look on a pair of socks to wear when the weather is grey and dull?
The socks were designed to resemble a sunflower. They are knitted cuff down with heel flap and gusset. The cuff, heel flap and toe are done in contrast coloured yarn, to resemble the seeds, while the petals are worked into the main coloured body of the socks. The petals care formed with small 1/1 cables, slipped stitches, moss and seed stitch.
The pattern includes three sizes: S, M and L to fit leg circumference 17.5 (20, 22.5) cm 7 (7.75, 8.5)“. Leg length is 25 (26, 27) cm 9.75 (10.25, 10.75)“ and foot length is 20 (23, 24.5) cm 8 (9, 9.5)“ when knit as given in the pattern; leg and foot length are adjustable.
The pattern is fairly extensive, because there are individual charts and written instructions for each size. If you plan to print the pattern, please refer to the notes and print only the pages your need for your size, i. e. the 2 pages with the overall instructions at the beginning and the 3 (3, 4) pages needed for the chosen size.
