Girl’s Best Friend is a fresh and modern take on a 1970s-style poncho, perfect for throwing on when there’s a bit of a chill in the air. Wear it as a beach cover-up, on sightseeing or shopping trips, in the office to combat the evils of air conditioning, or even on your commute to work to protect you from that early morning nip in the air.

Girl’s Best Friend is worked flat from the bottom up in two identical pieces, before seaming together at the shoulders. Written for a lightweight cotton/acrylic blend aran weight yarn, Girl’s Best Friend utilises a diamond mesh pattern that helps to maintain the light and airy feel of the finished item. Stitches for the edging around the body of the poncho and the neckline are picked up afterwards and worked in garter stitch with mitred corners.

Written for four sizes, to fit chest sizes 32-62”, instructions are provided in both written and charted format.

SUGGESTED YARN:

Approximately 1050 (1275, 1550, 1830)yds or 960 (1165, 1417, 1674)m of Aran weight yarn that gives gauge - sample shown used Sirdar Cotton Rich Aran 219yds (200m)/100g, in Double Denim colourway.

MATERIALS:

5.5mm (US9) circular needle (120 cm/48”), or size that gives gauge

5 (6, 7, 8) stitch markers

Tapestry needle

GAUGE AFTER BLOCKING:

12 stitches and 22 rows to 4 inches (10cm) in the diamond mesh pattern.
