This pattern is for a roomy-fit Adult size Boot Sock, that can accommodate thin cotton socks worn underneath or be worn alone with winter footwear.

The recommended yarn for this pattern comes from the oldest woolen mill in Canada, located in York Mills, New Brunswick, Canada. This woolen mill has been at the same location for over 150 years and still produces the highest quality wool yarn. Briggs and Little Tuffy yarn is a worsted weight wool yarn, which contains enough nylon to make durable and warm winter socks. Perfect socks for Canadian winters!

These socks are knit from the toe up, using a long circular knitting needle and the Magic Loop Method or DPNS if you prefer. The toe is cast on using Judy Becker’s Magic Cast-On. A helpful video Tutorial can be found here: https://youtu.be/GV9UaFgZ6Q0

These socks are knit using a stranded knitting technique for the charted portion of the pattern. Stranded knitting creates a tighter and less stretchy fabric. I used a larger (3.75 mm) needle in order to compensate for the tightness of the fabric, when working the stranded portion of this pattern. If you are a tight knitter, you may have to increase your needle size even larger in order to create enough stretch in the stranded section for better fit.

The amount of yarn required to complete a pair of these socks, depends entirely on the foot size you require and how long you want to make the leg. I made a pair of size 9 Men’s socks with an 8 inch leg (leg was measured from the heel to top of cuff). I used a total of 227 meters for the pair (Red: 60 m, Grey: 162 m, White: 56 m).
