Go Pack! Hat
This is a garter stitch hat knit using short rows to take advantage of Lorna’s Laces two-color yarns and to create some striping where there normally wouldn’t be any. I also wanted to avoid the pooling that may come from knitting in the round. This hat looks great knit in solid colors as well.
The Go Pack! Hat is such a fun and quick knit that if you cast on during the kick off, you’ll probably be done by halftime!
If you’d like to have a hat with a brim, cast on another 10 stitches or so. Adding a pom-pom on top might be a fun addition.
EDIT: Pattern updated for clarification on 8/27/15.
One skein Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Bulky (140 yards per skein)
US 10 1/2 needles
tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Instructions
Cast on 28 stitches.
Row 1: Knit all 28 stitches. Turn.
Row 2: Knit 20 stitches turn work and knit back. Turn.
Row 3: Knit 22 stitches turn work and knit back. Turn.
Row 4: Knit 24 stitches turn work and knit back. Turn.
Row 5: Knit 26 stitches turn work and knit back. Turn.
Row 6: Knit all 28 stitches. Turn
Repeat these rows ten (10) more times for a total of eleven (11) repeats ending with a Row 6, then cast off leaving a long tail. Fold knitted piece in half and sew the two edges together with the long tail to form the hat. Use the short tail from your cast on edge to close the top of the hat. A pom-pom on top might be a fun addition. Happy knitting!
