The welted knitting stitch pattern is a fun one to knit. It’s a combination of several rows of stockinette stitch followed by several rows of reverse stockinette stitch. The nature of these two stitches when worked in this manner make a welted pattern, with the stockinette rows rolling one direction and the reverse stockinette rows rolling in the other direction. This makes the cowl reversible, too!

Patterns for worsted-weight and fingering weight are included in the pattern.

For the fingering version, I suggest Zauberball or Zauberball Crazy.

I also wrote a bulky-weight version, available free from Interweave, called Welted Infinity Scarf.
