With its wide boatneck, kimono-inspired sleeves, and contrasting textures, Grainline has classic yet contemporary style. Worked in worsted weight yarn, this seamless raglan pullover is a quick knit and a great layering piece. Its relaxed fit is feminine rather than boxy, thanks to just the right amount of shaping.

Grainline is worked from the top-down, beginning at the neck. That means there’s no seaming and little finishing (other than weaving in ends). The distinctive “grainline” is stitched on the front of the sweater after blocking, using duplicate stitch. The pattern provides instructions for duplicate stitch as well as links to helpful tutorials.

A note about swatching: Knitting and blocking a generous-sized stockinette stitch swatch is highly recommended. Adjust needle size as needed to get as close to the stitch and row gauge as you can. Row gauge matters for this pattern, as the depth of the raglan armholes, the sleeve and waist shaping, and length of the body and sleeves are based on the row gauge.

You can also use the swatch to practice duplicate stitch before stitching the “grainline” on the sweater.
