Grand Rapids
This large rectangle wrap or scarf will satisfy your craving for playing with Plied Yarn, in colors of both Twists and Primaries! Mix and match the marls and tonals. Make Grand Rapids in only 2 colors, or 4, or 7!
Grand Rapids is a delightfully soothing knit, worked back and forth in stripes of stockinette chevron rows and simple garter stitch rows. Sink into the repetitive pattern, and be entertained by changing colors and watching the rectangle grow. This could be a great stash buster too!
If you want to make the 7 color option, purchase one skein of each color. A 2 color wrap uses 4 skeins of MC and 3 skeins of CC. Make a 4 color version using 4 skeins of MC and 1 skein each of 3 different CC.
Notes included for a 10” wide scarf version that uses about half the yarn yardages.
Main Color(s) make stockinette stripes in a Chevron stitch pattern that uses basic increase and decrease stitches, and Contrast Color(s) are simply RS and WS knit rows that make garter stitch stripes.
Grand Rapids is inspired by where I live, in a city with this name and next to the Grand River that flows through it. I take daily walks on paths along the river banks, and see the sparkling rapids from the windows of my condo.
The undulating stripes represent the river’s motion over dams, under bridges, through rocky beds and around many bends, making it’s way through the city of Grand Rapids and out to Lake Michigan.
