Granny Cardigan
As you slip on this cardigan, you can’t help but feel a sense of warmth and security, like you’re wrapped up in a hug from your favorite grandmother. It’s a feeling that stays with you all day, reminding you of the power of love and the comfort of home.
This cardigan is knitted from the top down.
The construction starts at the shoulders, where you set up all the cables, and then you work all the way down to the underarms, where you join all the pieces together.
The sleeves are picked up from the armholes and knitted in the round, seamlessly.
The button-band is also knitted in one piece, allowing you to finish this sweater with minimal work.
SIZES
1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). Shown in size 3 on a 36” (90 cm) bust.
Recommended ease: 5-10” of positive ease.
For the smaller sizes I added more ease to the finished measurements than for the larger sizes.

Sleeve circumference: 13½ (14¼, 15½, 16¾, 17½, 19½, 20¾, 22, 22¾, 24)” 34 (35.5, 38.5, 42, 43.5, 48.5, 52, 55, 57, 60) cm.
Armhole Depth: 7 (7¾, 8¼, 8¾, 9½, 9¾, 10¼, 10½, 11¼, 11½)“ 17.5 (19.5, 20.5, 22, 23.5, 24.5, 25.5, 16.5, 28, 29) cm.
Sleeve length from underarm to cuff: 19” 47.5 cm.
Length from underarm to hem: 16½” 41.5 cm.
MATERIALS
Yarn: 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10) skeins of Corrie Worsted by La Bien Aimée (100% Wool; 250 yd 230 m; 100g), or 1350 (1450, 1550, 1700, 1825, 1950, 2075, 2200, 2325, 2500) yards 1242 (1334, 1426, 1564, 1679, 1794, 1909, 2024, 2139, 2300) m of DK or light worsted weight yarn. Shown in color Coquelicot.
Note: You can also use Wensley Worsted, another base by La Bien Aimée which knits up similarly.
Needles: US 6 4 mm, and US 4 3.5 mm, at least 32” 80 cm long. I recommend a 40” 100 cm long for the collar band (in the smaller size only).
Other notions: Stitch markers, cable needle, stitch holders, tapestry needle.
6 buttons, approx. 20-25mm wide.
GAUGE
19.5 sts and 30 rows to 4” 10 cm in stockinette st on US 6 4mm needles, after blocking.
26 sts and 30 rows to 4” 10cm in cabled pattern on US 6 (4 mm) needles, after blocking.
Note: when swatching the cables, you can make a diamond a and a couple of cables. Bear in mind that there should be 2 purl stitches between them.
