• Beginner-friendly pattern uses UK trebles/US double crochet, chains, slip stitches and magic loop.

Great yarn stashbuster! For the colour squares, you need a soft DK yarn, approx 100m/50g, in 10 different colours. For the border, you’ll need a cream or white DK yarn, approx 650m/200g.

• For visual crocheters, there are stitch charts for the granny square and the border pattern in the PDF download.

• New PDF includes a layout diagram and alternative layout diagrams, plus a blank grid for colouring your own design.

• Optional join-as-you-go cream border saves time – the whole cream section can be worked without fastening off!! Step-by-step charts and instructions show you what to do in the PDF download.

• A4 digital PDF download pattern is available instantly, forever, and is easy to print.

• PDF pattern is given in UK crochet terms first and then US crochet terms, so you only need to read the section that’s relevant to you.

• Each colour square measures 7.5cm (3in) square (before border).
• Each square measures 9cm (3.5in) square (after border).
• Finished blanket measures approx 100cm (39.5in) square – ideal for a baby’s crib or just keeping your feet warm at night!
• For the colour squares, I used Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK, 75% extra fine merino, 20% silk, 5% cashmere; 116m/50g; in shades of red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, lilac, purple, pink, magenta.
• For the cream border, I used Wendy Poppet, 100% microfibre acrylic; 330m/100g, 2 balls of cream 3042.
• You’ll need a 4mm (UK 8, US G/6) hook.

Becky Skuse’s designer inspiration: “I’ve always adored rainbows, so designing a rainbow blanket had been on my to-do list for ages. I chose simple granny squares because they allow the rainbow colours to stay as the focus of the design, while the cream background keeps the look light and cheerful. For me, crocheting with each colour in turn was like a form of colour therapy, each one mesmerised me with its vibrant charm. To make the coloured squares stand out, I chose a yarn with a slight sheen, then used a contrasting matt-effect cream yarn for the background – both are super-soft yarns to make the blanket nice and snuggly.”
