Granny Weave is a two colour, geometric crochet blanket pattern which combines the classic solid granny square with the basket weave stitch. Just like a typical granny square, you can make it as a large blanket, square cushion or make multiple smaller motifs which can be joined.
This pattern is not intended for use as a baby blanket and is not suitable for cots / cribs.
Skills
This pattern is suitable for intermediate crocheters, though crocheters who are familiar with solid granny squares and post stitches should find it relatively straightforward.
The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial (left and right hand) and a photo guide for the first 8 rounds, so you can see what the design should look like after each round.
The pattern uses extended crochet stitches worked in the front and back posts. Stitch descriptions are given in the pattern and the video tutorial demonstrates how they are worked.
Materials
For the item pictured I used approximately1300g / 2100m Aran or Worsted weight yarn and a 5.5mm crochet hook.
The yarn you see here is British Aran wool from Wooly Knit:
Main colour (MC) Cream: 2 x 500g hanks of natural aran weight wool, 500g = 770m
Contrast Colour (CC) Blue: 1 x 400g cone denim, 400g = 616m (I used 300g / 460m of CC)
Sizing
The finished blanket you see pictured measures approximately 115cm square after a gentle blocking. You can keep working the pattern until it reaches your desired size.
