Granny's Hydrangeas
The design:
Granny’s Hydrangeas uses a unique JAYG (join as you go) appliqué method. The ‘serving suggestion’ piles the centre of a granny square with with hydrangea blossoms to mimic the round pom pom blooms that are a classic favourite OR you can of course use the blossoms on any other project
The no sew joining method doesn’t show on the back of your work.
The texture and tactile nature of the bouquet is irresistible to touch
You can continue the granny square as large as you like either joining multiple squares together or as a single square with extra hydrangea blossoms scattered as your granny square grows
Assumed knowledge: Previous experience making granny squares, as explicit instruction for a basic granny square is not included. However a chart of a granny square showing placement of your JAYG motif is included
Materials needed:
Any weight scrap yarns. The amount needed for each blossom is very tiny so it is perfect for using up scraps. You can mix and match yarn weights
Stitch markers
Wool/darning needle
No gauge
Recommended Hook size:
Hook one size smaller than usual for your chosen yarn weight for the blossoms and your usual hook for the granny square base
Stitch abbreviations:
(American Terms)
pm: Place marker
dc: Double crochet
sc: Single crochet
ch: chain
skp: Skip stitch
sl st: Slip stitch
ch-sp: Chain space
