Green Grocery Bag
by Ann Budd
This pattern can be found on pages 146-149 of Knitting Green: Conversations and Planet-Friendly Projects, by Ann Budd with contributions from some of the knitwear industry’s leading designers.
Ann Budd has been reusing shopping bags for years, only recycling them when the bottoms fall out or the sides split. Enter her grocery bag knitted out of durable and renewable linen. Ann began by knitting a garter-stitch rectangle for the base, then she picked up stitches around the edges of the base and knit the sides in the round to the top in drop-stitch pattern on large needles. She threaded I-cord through the uppermost drop-stitches for a drawstring handle that
keeps the contents secure.
