Grenadine
Grenadine is a mix of the old world pomegranate with new world knitting techniques. The earflaps of Peruvian hats inspired the triangles of the lower border, which mimic the sepals of the pomegranate. The cuffs echo the triangular form with smaller “puntas,” or points, another design element from the Andes.
The cardigan begins with creating individual triangular shapes at the hem, then with them all lined up on the knitting needle, the body is worked button up, in pieces. The garter stitch sleeves begin with the puntas edging and are worked cuff up. The sweater is seamed together and stitches are picked up along the fronts and neckline for the garter stitch edging.
This knitting pattern includes detailed written directions and a schematic with measurements.
