A follow-up to the Guilloche Beanie, the Guilloche Beret makes for a playful yet sophisticated winter accessory. 

Named after the enamelling technique used to make Fabergé eggs, the ‘guilloche’ fabric features a reversible mini-honeycomb motif that can be worked without a cable needle. Suitable for DK to Aran-weight yarns, this is a quick single skein project and makes for excellent gift-knitting.

Gauge

YARN NOTES

Choosing a yarn toward the DK end of the spectrum will result in a beret with more drape/ slouch; choosing a yarn toward the Aran weight of the spectrum will result in a beret that is stiffer and holds its form. Note that a fingering to sportweight yarn held double can also be used to achieve a suitable yarn weight for this pattern (a fingering weight yarn held double will yield the equivalent of a DK weight yarn; a sportweight yarn held double will yield the equivalent of an Aran weight yarn).

Note that if using a worsted spun and/or high twist heavy Aran weight yarn, it is possible that a single skein may be insufficient for the largest size, in particular with the wide beret option.

BERET vs BEANIE?

Q: How similar are the Guilloche Beret and the Guilloche Beanie patterns? Is the beret simply a wider version of the Beanie?

A: The two patterns use the same stitch motif, but differ in construction (in other words: No, the beret is not just a wider version of the beanie; the crown shaping is done using different techniques for the two hats).

To compensate for the similarities between the two patterns, while keeping in mind that they are different patterns, I have introduced a bundle discount.
