Gauge Notes: 3 arches and 4 rows = 4”

Pattern starts with a foundation single crochet, then simple decreases in the mesh arch stitch rows to create shaping. 2nd skein of yarn is needed to create the shell edging along the curved edge of the shawlette.

ETA Ravelry user swampgoddess stitched the shawl and made the following suggestion in her notes. I decided they were informative, so I am including them here. Pattern note - this should be obvious if you look at the photo, but I’ll add it anyway - row 2 (and beyond) should read Ch 5, sk sc,* sc in ch sp. At least, that’s how I would say it. You must skip that first sc and work into the “next” chain space, not the very first one.

Pattern Stitch Count If you would like to lengthen the scarflette, the starting row of fsc needs to be increased by a count of 4 for each additional arch you are adding.

Lengthening the scarflette will also change the stitch count needed for the shell edging. Stitch count for the edging is also 4 stitches.

I highly recommend making sure you have two skeins of yarn for this project. Even if you are an extremely tight crocheter, you may not have enough yarn to complete the edging with just using one skein of yarn. I strongly suggest using the 2nd skein of yarn for the edging.

6-16-2014 - I’m very honored to share that this pattern has become the first of my designs to ever appear in a print ad. It is on the back cover of the Summer 2014 Interweave Crochet. Thanks again to Cascade Yarns® for making such a great investment in crochet!
