Gus the Basset Hound is so cute you’ll want to squeeze him! From those teeny paws, to that expression. There’s a whole lot to love about this little pup.

Gus the Basset Hound is a part of my Puppy Friends collection – there’s six cute designs available as individual patterns or as an e-book.

Gus is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Gus is approx. 11cm tall, 16cm long.

You will need:

• 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
• 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted, 50g BROWN, 25g BLACK and WHITE
• BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
• A pair of 8mm safety eyes
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Polyester toy stuffing
• Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

• Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.

• When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.

• Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.

• I’ve used the following yarns: o BROWN = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 055 Beige
  o BLACK = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 060 Black o WHITE = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 002 Cream

• I have used safety eyes but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
