Hadley Checkerboard Brioche Scarf

Hadley uses two-color brioche knitting and garter stitch to form a “checkerboard” pattern. The checkerboard pattern is arranged in tiers diagonally and form staircases on both ends of the scarf. The garter stitch squares are also knitted in the middle of the scarf diagonally. The result is a stunning scarf that looks great on both sides!

Gauge: 20 sts and 20 counted rows = 4” 10 cm in 2-color brioche stitch

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Valley Yarns Valley Superwash (100% Extra Fine Merino; 98 yards 89 meters/50 grams): 024 Orchid (LC, 4 balls), 320 Plum (DC, 4 balls).

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm).

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Special Stitches: Garter Stitch; 2-Color Brioche Stitch; Two-Color Cable Cast On

Pattern Notes ─ In brioche knitting, a stitch with its yarn over is considered ONE stitch. The yarn over is never counted separately.

One brioche row consists of 2 rows, one worked in Light Color (LC) and the other in Dark Color (DC).

Half of the stitches are worked in one row and the other half of the stitches that were slipped in the former row are worked in the following row.

Two rows are worked for each counted row that appears on the face of the fabric. When you need to count rows, count only the stitches going up one knit column.
