Halloweenies
What do you get when you combine a love for Ghostbusters, Halloween, and those little electric tea lights? Glowing amigurumi-style Halloweenies in the shape of a ghost, a pumpkin, and, of course – Slimer!
Crocheted tightly with fingering weight cotton to give them stiffness and still be thin enough to let the light shine through (literally), these are fun little projects to use bits of leftover yarn. Or make them bigger with thicker wool and felt them instead for a no-glow version!
They make spooky but ultra-cute decorations for your table, desk, or night stand – with or without lights!
About the pattern:
The Halloweenies are adventurous-beginner-friendly, but you have to be willing to crochet a little tighter than you might be comfortable with. And basic embroidery skills are helpful as well. Techniques used include dc2tog – double crochet 2 together, and sc2tog – single crochet 2 together.
Materials:
3 colors of sport weight cotton yarn, about 25 yards each, plus about 1-2 yards of black yarn for embroidering details. Samples shown used Nazli Gelin Garden 3 in color 300-01 (white), Tahki Cotton Classic Lite in color 4726 (green), and Cascade Ultra Pima Fine in colors 3812 (orange) and 3754 (black).
Size 2.75mm / US C crochet hook
Locking or open stitch markers
Embroidery needle
Battery-operated tea lights (optional)
Gauge: Not crucial, but fabric should be somewhat stiff so the figures will stand up over the tea lights.
Finished Size: Ghost: About 4” high, 2.5” diameter at the bottom; Pumpkin: About 1.5” high (3” with stem), 2.75” diameter; Slimer: About 2.5” high, 2.75” diameter at chin.
