Handspun Sock Pattern Template
As hand spinners, we have the option to make yarns that perfectly suit the fleece or the project we have in mind. Unfortunately, because our yarns are unique, it’s difficult to find a commercial pattern that uses what is often an “odd” gauge.
This template forms the basis of a series of sock patterns featuring handspun yarns. I’ve included lots of tips for using your unique yarns. Written with options for many gauges, this template features a textured cuff and instep with a plain foot and wedge toe. Of course, you can knit a plain sock if you choose. Please add other motifs and send me a pic of your originals for inclusion in my Customer Gallery!
These instructions are chatty enough for a first time sock knitter. There are notes on shaping the ankle area for those who like larger or smaller dimensions than found in most “standard” patterns.
Skill level: Adventurous Beginner - You should be able to knit and purl, but need not have made a sock before. The instructions are clear and chatty and have plenty of shaping detail.
Many thanks to Vicki in CA for knitting this sample sock. Vicki used a handspun Shetland X yarn in about worsted weight that I spun from roving and left its natural color.
