I adore reading cheesy romance novels. For me there’s nothing more decadent than putting my usually-too-busy brain on pause and reveling in guaranteed-happy-ending schmultz.
Harlequin is an unapologetic nod to romance. It’s sensuous, feminine, almost totally without substance and a complete pleasure to wear. Not unlike the literary genre, Harlequin makes use of incredibly repetitive patterns. On the back there are Ostrich Plumes which are formed by repeating the same row throughout each section and allowing the increases (or decreases) to shift the motif. The frilly shawl collar is created easily with eyelet ribbing. The sleeves echo the Ostrich Plumes from the back with Feather and Fan—an incredibly popular beginning lace stitch. So, while Harlequin taken as a whole has a lot of “wow”, each component is readily accessible. For those who prefer a bit of bling with their lace there is a beaded variation which uses an unusual technique developed for this design.
Harlequin is an elegant way to cover your shoulders—whether you’re wearing a glamorous evening gown or a simple camisole. Heaving bosoms are completely optional but highly recommended should you feel so inclined.
