Harray Stole
Neolithic artwork provides an incredible treasury of inspiration and those found at the Ness of Brodgar on Mainland Orkney are second to none. Zigzags, chevrons, and diamonds are the basis for many of the motifs found in traditional lace knitting across Europe and happen to also be easily inscribed on stone.
The motifs used in the Harray Stole are loosely based on this photograph of a piece of stone artwork found at the Ness of Brodgar (currently at the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.) This archaeological treasure trove lies between Harray and Stenness lochs.
