HARVEST SEASON MITTENS

Patterned to resemble delicate stalks of wheat, the Harvest Season mittens look so pretty you might 
mistake them for being purely decorative. They are in fact surprisingly functional. The ribbed eyelet motif combines the thermal properties of ribbed fabric, with the ventilation created by the eyelets, resulting in a fabric that adapts well to temperature fluctuations - particularly when worked in a rustic, woollen-spun yarn. 
(To put it more bluntly: Your hands will stay warm, without getting sweaty!)

With a manageable stitch count and easy, addictive lacework, these mittens are very quick to knit and make for a great gift-knitting project.

MATERIALS & INFORMATION

Construction
These mittens are worked from the cuff up, with mirrored thumbs at sides. The tips are shaped by means of paired decreases. The upper side of the mittens is worked in Harvest Season motif, the underside is worked in reverse stockinette. There are no gussets involved; the palm and thumb increases are hidden within the lace motif. The shaping is anatomical with plenty of room for the hand and thumb to move comfortably.

to fit hand circumference of approximately 16-19 cm/ 6.5-7.75”

ADDITIONAL NOTES ON YARN
Although technically this pattern will work with any yarn which can be knitted at the stated gauge, in my opinion the mittens are at their best when made with ‘rustic’ and somewhat ‘hairy’ yarns, so that the eyelets are fuzzed over with fluff. If Nutiden and Lettlopi are not your thing, consider blends which contain any of the following: Gotland, Wensleydale, Masham, Alpaca, Mohair. Avoid yarns with synthetic content or superwash yarns.
