Have it Your Way Shawl
This scarf/shawl is a perfect gift because it will fit anyone both in size and style. I normally avoid shawls because I forget them, get them caught in car doors and generally they cause me more mishap than joy. My accessory woes are endless. But this one stays in place much better than most however you choose to wrap it because of the versatile button closure.
YARN, GAUGE, SIZE AND MACHINE
Any machine may be used. Gauges for 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 7, 8 stitches per inch and 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 rows/inch are included. One main size is given. It will finish to about 20” X 79”. This works well for the majority of women and teens. However, extra tall or large wearers may prefer more length so as to have plenty to wrap without skimping. To add length to the shawl, multiply your actual row gauge times the amount of length you wish to add. This will give the number of additional rows required. The sample is knitted using Lion Shawl in a Ball. For the size given, 2 balls were used. This is about 1036 yards or10.6 ounces. For all yarns, a looser than usual knitting gauge is suggested to get a soft drape. For the sample, stitch size 5 on a bulky was used, though the yarn will knit nicely on 4 or even 3. On a mid-gauge, try size 7-8. This yarn is not essential to the project but certainly does provide charming character. Passaps may be used. See page 3 of the pattern.
