We all have that yarn - gorgeous but with completely random color changes. Perfect for creating gorgeous long flat items like scarves or single round ones like hats without having to do a lot of extra work.
But I didn’t want a hat. I wanted mittens. And I wanted them to match, darn it! And I didn’t want to have to buy four skeins of yarn - then attempt to find matching starting points - to do it.
Enter these steeked mittens. Worked similar to a hat in the round with some thumb gussets added in, your color stripes will work their way perfectly across each mitt.
- Skills needed: steeking, grafting and seaming.
- This pattern is not meant to be a tutorial for steeking or any other technique.
- Pattern includes schematic to show the set-up and photos giving basic illustration of the steeking steps.
- Good tutorials to review:
- Good fibers for steeking include anything that would felt well such as wool. You can use superwash, but the reinforcing line of stitches is required then.
