Take flight with this reversible bag, tapestry crocheted with pearl cotton and beads. Two beaded threads are worked at the same time to create the bird motif. One thread is carried while the other is crocheted. The beauty of tapestry crocheting with beads is that each thread can be loaded with one bead color and only the color that is needed at the time is crocheted to form the pattern while the other thread is carried. The glass beads make this bag very heavy, but this bag may also be tapestry crocheted without beads for a lighter touch.

When crocheting with beads, the bead naturally slides to the back of the stitch, so the back of the stitch is on the outside of the bag. The crochet needle is inserted from the inside of the project to the outside. The motif is twenty-two stitches wide, so the total number of stitches in the base is a multiple of twenty-two. It is possible to make a variety of sizes with the same design motif simply by increasing or decreasing the length of the foundation chain by eleven stitches. Feel free to substitute different colors or another motif. Just be sure that the total number of stitches in the base is a multiple of the number of stitches in your motif, though.
