YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE:
I wanted everyone to be able to knit this, no matter what kind of machine is available. Therefore, I chose pink Caron Simply Soft yarn which is soft, readily available at craft stores and moderately priced. A single skein is just enough unless the pattern is altered. I knitted the sample on a bulky LK100 hobby machine at stitch size 3. But I also swatched the yarn on my Artisan mid-gauge at stitch size 10 and also on my Studio 328 standard gauge using every other needle at stitch size 10. Simply Soft is a very light worsted weight and it knitted fine on all machines. A Studio mid-gauge will also work at a smaller stitch size than the Artisan but a larger stitch size than the bulky. Use a bit of weight on all machines. The gauge of the sample is 4 stitches/5 rows per inch but it is not necessary for the gauge to be perfect to get a good scarf.
