Hearthside Pullover is all about color, texture, and using the yarn you already have. Knit seamlessly from the top down, this v-neck sweater pairs plush two color brioche with simple garter accents for a sweater thats super cozy and easy to wear.

Like its cardigan sibling, it has that same squishy fabric, but the pullover wears a bit lighter and closer to the body. The marled brioche fabric blends colors automatically, so even very different yarns come together into a cohesive sweater.

Beautiful shaping keeps it comfortable to wear, while the fabric does most of the color work for you.

Design Details

Hearthside Pullover has a shaped V neckline, structured shoulders, and gently fitted sleeves. Garter stitch at the hem, cuffs, and collar balances the brioche texture and gives the sweater stability.

The brioche creates a plush, dimensional fabric while the garter edges keep everything modern. Because the brioche is marled the colors you use will blend beautifully.

Every version ends up looking a little different depending on the yarns you choose.

Pattern Highlights

  • Two color brioche with soft marled color blending
  • Structured V neckline and shoulder shaping
  • Designed specifically for stash yarn and leftovers
  • Seamless top down construction
  • Video tutorials included for techniques and color planning

Construction Overview

Hearthside Pullover is worked top down.

The back shoulders are worked first in garter stitch with short rows to shape the neckline and shoulders. The knitting transitions directly into two color brioche for the upper back.

Front shoulders are then picked up from the cast on edge and shaped to form the V neckline. Once the front and back reach the underarm, the body is joined and worked in the round in brioche.

The sweater finishes with a marled garter hem. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round in brioche with shaping toward the cuff. The folded V neck collar is worked last in garter stitch.

Yarn & Color Play

Hearthside Pullover is designed for fingering weight yarn held double.

Each brioche color is made by holding two strands together. You are effectively knitting with four colors:

  • Foreground (FG): 2 different colors held together
  • Background (BG): 2 different colors held together

The marling softens contrast and blends colors naturally across the fabric.

You do not need matching yarn for sleeves and body and you do not need equal amounts of each color. The sweater was intentionally designed for leftovers and minis.

You can:

  • keep the same strands throughout
  • swap one strand when a color runs out
  • substitute a similar shade
  • introduce a completely new color

Changing only one strand at a time creates a soft blending effect, video tutorials included.

The blue and green sample was knit entirely from leftovers. The pink sample fades two Hue Loco palettes (Taproot and Pagosa). Both approaches work equally well.

Video tutorials show how we introduce new strands and combine colors.

Needles

US 7 (4.50 mm) circular needles, 16–40” for brioche
US 8 (5.00 mm) circular needles, 16–40” for garter

Adjust needle size as needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge

US 8: 18 sts x 32 rows = 4” x 4”

2 strand brioche (FG + BG)
US 7: 12 sts x 18 rows = 4” x 4”
