Hell Gate
“I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
-Henry David Thoreau
This pattern can be found in issue two of Nomadic Knits.
The namesake for these socks is a historic railroad bridge in New York City. The bridge crosses the Hell Gate, a strait in the East River, and connects Astoria Queens to Randalls and Wards Islands in Manhattan.
From the designer: The main stitch pattern used here immediately made me think of bridges. I see beauty in even the coldest looking industrial bridges because they present us with a way to connect to each other. This bridge seemed particularly romantic to me as it has seen so much traffic over the years.
