Hemu
Hemu-shawl is first knitted sideways to form a long shallow triangle. The border is knit using the Old Shale lace pattern after picking up stitches from the lower edge of the triangle. The traditional Hap shawl yarn overs form a smooth upper edge.
The pattern has both written and charted instructions. There is a separate file with bigger charts.
Yarn:
150 g of fingering weight yarn, 420-460 m/ 460-505 yds per 100 g in 4 colours: 75 g of main colour and 25 g of each accent colour (B, C and D).
The samples were knit with:
Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, 100% wool, 105 m/115 yds per 25 g
Jamieson & Smith 2 ply jumper weight, 100% wool, 115 m/125 yds per 25 g
The yardage is an estimate, the sample shawls used approximately 65-70 g of the main colour, 25 g of colour B and C and 20 g of colour D.
