About a year ago, I was browsing in my LYS when this gorgeous skein of gradient yarn caught my eye. I resisted temptation, as I didn’t know what I would make with it. However, every time I came back it would taunt me from the shelf. Finally I couldn’t stand it anymore, and it came home with me. The stars must have been aligned just right, and within 3 days this design was done and off my needles.

Although this shows off gradient yarns especially well, it also looks great in a solid or semi solid sock yarn. As written it used around 200-250 yards, but the height can easily be adjusted to maximize your yardage. The lace pattern is easy to memorize, and only uses 3 different stitches - yo, k2tog, and ssk, making this a very good first lace project. The optional beads are added on the top and bottom edges, and really help emphasize the curving lines of the cowl.

The lace stitch is presented in a large, easy to read chart, as well as line by line directions. Due to the small circumference you will need a 16” or 20” circular needle.
