Hero Shawl
The Hero Shawl is a “curved triangle” shape, worked from the top down. The main body of the shawl is worked in garter stitch, finished off with a knitted-on triangle border. The shape of the shawl is very particular so that even though it uses just one skein of yarn, it wraps around the neck easily.
The idea for the shawl came from wanting something with a really simple stitch pattern so that your choice of yarn would be the real “hero” of the design. Try speckled, variegated, or even tonal and solid coloured yarns!
My shawl used 92 grams (387 meters) of Skein Top Draw Sock yarn in the Milky Way colourway, but it would work for any single skeins of fingering weight sock yarn you might have lying around. It is written for one size, but can be easily customised for different yarn weights/yardages. It requires 4mm and 3.5mm circular needles.
The Hero Shawl is the first pattern of an ongoing project called The Dollar Store Collection. This is a series of patterns which will each cost just $1 USD, with all proceeds to be donated to a nominated charity (currently UNICEF).
