Hidden wavelengths is a fingering weight crochet cowl pattern which uses contrasting colours and a gentle ripple stitch to create eye catching yet subtle undulating stripes of colour and texture.
Skills
I would class this pattern as intermediate level. It uses relatively simple stitches throughout but a good attention to stitch anatomy and placement is required. It uses back and front third loops, simple colour changes and chainless foundation single crochets.
A stitch diagram is included in the paid PDF version of the pattern as a supplement to the written pattern.
Finished Size
The finished cowl is intended for adult use only and measures approximately 60cm/24in in circumference and 32cm/12.5in deep.
Some basic guidance on changing the size of the cowl is given in the pattern.
Materials
This pattern is designed to work with a 3.5mm crochet hook and a typical ‘sock set’, - i.e. a 100g skein and 20g mini skein of 4ply/fingering weight yarn. The sample pictured used Pippin yarns, 4ply large sock set, 80% Merino, 20% nylon, 100g skein = 425m/467yds and 20g skeins = 85m/84yds, colour way ‘pops of pastel’.
The pattern is written in English using standard US crochet terminology.
