The pattern originates from the Fashion Framework: Yoke Sweater Lesson of 2011. The idea came from my MHK Level 3 traditional knitting report on … yoke sweaters, for which I got special permission to write. Most of the sweater was planned and the article written at my father’s ICU bedside. The sweater was made shortly after he passed. Cast On’s then managing editor Jane Miller graciously allowed the sweater to be named after a poem read at his funeral, “High Flight” by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. My father was a long-time private pilot. Among his final words was the last line from this poem: “Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.”
