Highclere Toque
For fans of Downton Abbey and Miss Fisher Mysteries! Old manor houses are notoriously hard to heat, but fashionable ladies of the Roaring Twenties regarded a frigid draft as all the encouragement they needed to wear chic millinery. In fact, a proper lady visitor might even keep her hat on indoors - decidedly a plus in the days when only fireplaces kept the residents of a country house from freezing.
This one-skein toque, with its sporty texture, I-Cord trim, and silk ribbon floral embellishment, would remind the lady of the house that spring might be right around the corner, but while winter winds blew she could stay both toasty and stylish. The addition of an optional, short-row shaped band places this toque into cloche territory, making it especially versatile.
Going down in needle size to knit this worsted wt. yarn on a US #6 needle gives the toque elasticity and a density that helps it hold its shape – and makes it especially cozy to wear.
