A cosy cowl with a soft drape thanks to using the slightly larger needle size which is sure to keep you warm wherever your adventures take you.

Pattern inspiration:
Any trip to the Highlands is an adventure for me and when I heard of the yarn from Loch Ness Knitting which is sourced locally in the Scottish Highlands, and as always naturally dyed using local ‘waste’ materials, that sounded like a yarny adventure too.

This sparked an idea, I was thinking along the lines of those ‘choose your own adventure’ books that were around in the 1980s. You buy one book but the actual storyline would be different depending on the choices you made.

So here you have one pdf file but multiple options. Will you knit a wide cowl or a narrow cowl (or even two)?

Another decision to be made, whichever size you choose you’ll need two different skeins of yarn.

Which colours will you choose?

Which of your skeins will be colour 1 and which will be colour 2?

Once you’ve completed your cowl…

How will you wear it? The wide cowl can be double wrapped as seen in the pattern photo, or worn long.

Where will you take it? A cowl is the perfect accessory for your outdoor adventures, no matter how windy it gets, it’ll never blow away!!

Yarn requirements:
The sample cowl uses 2 skeins Loch Ness Knitting DK, one skein each of two contrasting colours.

Gauge:
To achieve the dimensions mentioned below, my gauge was:
16 st x 26 rows to 10cm x 10cm over section 2 pattern.

However, this is just an indication and gauge isn’t vitally important for this pattern. Your choice of yarn and needles will affect yarn yardage, so please keep this in mind when selecting your yarn.

Size:
Your finished cowl will measure approx:
25-30 cm x 35-40 cm for the narrow cowl
55-60 cm x 35-40 cm for the wide cowl
