Hiippa is fitted pixie bonnet hat, made from bulky-weight merino wool, which keeps your child’s head and ears warm. With I-cord tie strings it stays in place in a small baby’s head as well. You can decorate the hat with any motifs you like. Motifs are not included in the pattern. By adjusting the needle size and making other yarn choices you can adjust the finished size easily.

Sizing:
Newborn (3-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-4 years, 4-6 years)
Finished measurements, fit to head circumference: ~37 cm (44 cm, 48 cm, 50 cm, 52 cm, 54 cm)
NOTE about sizing: If you want to wear light cotton hood underneath the Hiippa-Pixie, you might want to knit one size bigger Hiippa than the actual head circumference is. The grey sample is size 1-2 years worn by a 2-year old with head circumference 50 cm, and the yellow sample is size 2-4 years worn by a 5-year old with head circumference 53 cm.

Gauge:
21 sts and 30 rows = 4” 10 cm in Stockinette stitch.

Materials:
Yarn:
Schachenmayr nomotta Extra Merino Big (100% Merino Wool) approx.: 2 skeins (50 g approx. yds/80m per skein) for every size.
OR
any other yarn to achieve the correct gauge.

Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) 32”/80 cm circular needle.
US (3,5 mm) 32”/ 80 cm circular needle.
(Two US (3,5 mm) dpns for the i-cord tie strings.)
For the biggest sizes knitting could be easier if you have two circular needles, so you can knit in the round with two needles. Choose the method you prefer.
Adjust the needle size to get the correct gauge.

Other:
Tapestry needle, stitch markers, stitch holders/waste yarn

Techniques (instructions given in the pattern):
Short rows with wrap & turn
Knitting in the round with one long needle (magic loop)
