Hillhead Slipover
Sizes: Bust/chest 40 (44, 48)“, 101.5 112, 122 cm
This vest uses traditional Fair Isle techniques. The sweater is knit in the round using stranded knitting. The armholes and neck use steeks to enable the pattern to proceed in the round.
The vest includes alternating light and dark diamonds with varying designs included within. The pattern uses 10 colors of blues, grays, and whites.
3-4 one ounce (28 gram) skeins main color, 2 skeins of three secondary colors and 1 skein each of 6 colors.
According to the author:
“This pattern is fascinating because of the shifting complexity of positive, negative, and checkered diamonds. The subdued colors - black, dark blues, blue-grays and grays - are given depth and resonance by the small intervals between them. The low-key palette is jolted by a light, bright turquoise. In the ribbing, turquoise is next to the lightest color, gray; in the body of the slipover, the same turquoise is next to black. A light among lights as well as a light among dark, is doubly luminous.”
