The Hjalti Hat features traditional Shetland motifs arranged in a vertical design. The pattern is continuous from brim to crown so both K2tog and CDD are worked around the vertical motifs for the crown decreases.

The Hjalti Hat is made using Murrister Wirset, our own native breed Shetland wool. The design shown here is knitted in Whaalwick and Sea Saat. The alternate colourway shown in the second picture is knitted in Yatlen and Tactigill. You will need 2 x 25g balls of main colour 2 x 25g balls of a contrast colour. Murrister Wirset is available on my website www.alisonrendall.com

The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed by increasing or decreasing needle size by 0.5mm. Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting is close.

The design is inspired by the vintage wallpaper of my youth to celebrate my 60th birthday.
